Historical and Cultural Sites
Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, two separate yet geographically close regions, were historically under Portuguese colonial rule until their integration into India in 1961. This unique blend of Portuguese influence, traditional Indian heritage, and rich natural beauty makes the region a fascinating destination for history and culture enthusiasts. From colonial-era architecture to vibrant festivals, these territories offer a myriad of historical and cultural sites that reflect their diverse past.
Daman, one of the two districts of the union territory, is known for its historic forts, remnants of Portuguese colonialism.

Daman Fort: Situated at the entrance to the Daman city, this fort is one of the most prominent historical sites. Built in the 16th century, it served as a defense structure during Portuguese rule. The fort has two main gates, a chapel, and several ruins that stand testament to the region's rich past. Visitors can explore the ramparts and enjoy a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea.

Moti Daman Fort: Located on the southern side of Daman, this fort is larger and more elaborate, featuring impressive ramparts and a lighthouse. The fort was constructed by the Portuguese in the early 17th century and houses several churches, including the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church and Saint Jerome Fort.
