Aranmula, a picturesque village in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, is a treasure trove of cultural heritage, spiritual significance, and natural beauty. Nestled on the banks of the holy Pampa River, Aranmula is renowned for its ancient temples, traditional boat races, exquisite metal mirrors, and vibrant festivals. The Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna in his role as Parthasarathy (charioteer of Arjuna), is the central attraction of Aranmula. This ancient temple, believed to be over 1700 years old, is one of the 108 Divya Desams (sacred abodes of Vishnu) revered by Vaishnavites. The temple's architecture is a splendid example of Kerala's traditional style, with intricate wood carvings, mural paintings, and a sanctum sanctorum that exudes a divine aura.

The annual festival, Aranmula Vallasadya, is a grand celebration that attracts thousands of devotees. During this festival, elaborate feasts are offered to the oarsmen of the traditional snake boats (Palliyodams) in a gesture of gratitude and reverence. The temple is also famous for its unique ritual of Thiruvonathoni, where a ceremonial boat carrying the sacred idol of Lord Krishna arrives at the temple on the Uthrittathi day of the Onam festival.


The Aranmula Boat Race, held annually during the Onam festival, is a vibrant and exhilarating event that showcases the rich maritime heritage of Kerala. This race is a part of the Vallasadya festival and features the majestic Palliyodams, adorned with ornate decorations and manned by skilled oarsmen. The rhythmic rowing, synchronized chants, and the sheer energy of the participants create a mesmerizing spectacle that draws spectators from all over the world.
