Basar Saraswathi Temple

Basar Saraswathi Temple, situated on Godavari river banks, is the most important temple in Adilabad. The uniqueness of this temple is that it is one amongst the two temples dedicated to the Goddess Saraswati – the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts and sciences. It is also an ancient temple. It gains further importance as it is believed to be situated on the land where sage Ved Vyas performed severe penance. The temple is an old pilgrimage spot where many pilgrims come to Basara to perform the Akshara abhyasam ceremony for the children before they start formal school education wherein the children perform the exercise of letters, and devote books, pens, pencils notebooks to the goddess of knowledge.
