Bekal Fort

Historical Significance
Bekal Fort has a storied past that dates back over 300 years. The fort was built by Shivappa Nayaka of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty in the mid-17th century to defend against invaders and protect the region's valuable spice trade. It later came under the control of the Mysore Sultanate, led by Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, before being captured by the British East India Company in the late 18th century.

The fort's strategic location on a promontory with natural defenses provided an excellent vantage point to monitor naval activities and defend the coast from invaders. Its robust construction and well-planned layout reflect the military engineering skills of the time.
