Dakhineshwar Temple

Dakhineshwar Temple is like a beautiful sonnet in brick and mortar. Sitting in a quiet, green patch of land, beyond the borders of Kolkata, in Dhakhineshwar, this ochre yellow edifice has drawn scores of devotees into its embrace. As the Hooghly River ebbs and tides beside its walls, the Belur Math keeps it company on its eastern banks.

It is said that the famed Bengal Queen, Rani Rashmoni sanctioned the building of this temple. Known to be unconventionally tolerant and benevolent, she desired to make this temple a place of spirituality and peace for all. That is why, apart from Hindus, people of other religion, creed, caste and sect were welcome to pray and offer their prayers with open arms.

Rani Rashmoni knew that the divine had to have a place that is adorned with love, care and beauty. That is why, the workings on the temple reflect her wish. The symmetrical layout, the temple complex, central sanctum dedicated to Goddess Kali, the smaller shrines for various Hindu deities all exude an aura of architectural brilliance. It is crowded with intricate carvings, ornate domes, towering spires, colorful motifs and sculptures depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. It is no surprise, that an edifice of such architectural glory and spiritual significance draws people from all around the world. So now it’s your turn to experience the divine allure of Dakshineswar Temple, where spirituality meets architectural grandeur – a journey awaiting your presence
