Elephant Falls
Elephant Falls, located near Shillong, is one of the most famous and accessible waterfalls in Meghalaya. Named by the British for a rock resembling an elephant, which has since been eroded away, the falls are locally known as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew, meaning "The Three Step Waterfalls." This name aptly describes the three distinct cascades that make up the falls. The first fall is hidden amidst dense vegetation, creating a serene and intimate atmosphere. The second fall is more open, with water gently cascading down a wide ledge. The third and final fall is the most impressive, with a steep drop that creates a powerful and mesmerizing flow of water. The area surrounding Elephant Falls is lush with greenery, providing a tranquil and picturesque setting. Well-maintained pathways and viewing platforms allow visitors to explore and enjoy the falls from various angles. The sound of the water combined with the natural beauty of the surroundings offers a perfect spot for relaxation and photography. Elephant Falls is easily accessible from Shillong, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Its natural beauty, combined with its accessibility and well-maintained facilities, make Elephant Falls a must-visit attraction in Meghalaya.
