Garga Dam
Garga Dam, located 12 km away from Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand, is one of the most famous engineered marvels of the region. Apart from acting as a water supplier to Bokaro Steel Plant and residential areas of the region, the dam is also a popular sightseeing attraction amongst locals and tourists. Surrounded by thick green forest cover and river body, the dam gives a perfect setting for day trips and family picnics. Garga Dam is also preferred by many as sunset and sunrise watching points. Garga is a tributary of the Damodar River that flows on the southern parts of the city of Bokaro. A dam was constructed on it in the 1950s to make it the first such river valley project in the country. The power generated from the dam and the water is used for industrial and civilian purposes of Bokaro. But, its appeal lies in its picturesque setting with greenery all around and the wonderful river which makes it quite a picnic spot for the picnic loving Bokaro populace.
