Ghanpur Fort

While there are a good deal of popular hiking and rock climbing spots around the city, there remains a few, unexplored, uncrowded ones where you can find some seclusion. Khilla Ghanpur, one of the most historical places and lesser-known spots near Mahabubnagar, is worth exploring if you are looking for a quick getaway from Hyderabad and looking to spend quality time in the midst of nature and solitude. It is the best place to escape if you’re an adventure-seeker and want to try out some scrambling and caving.

During the monsoons, the entire route offers stunning views of the lush green panoramas.

Located at a distance of 113 km from Hyderabad in Wanaparthy district, a two-and-a-half hours drive will lead you here. The fort was built in the early 13th century on a rocky hill during the Kakatiya reign. It is still standing tall after witnessing many wars between Qutub Shahis, Bijapur, and Vijayanagar kings and has been so well-preserved that they give us an amazing sneak peek into the history. A true history buff can easily spend hours here praising the intricacies and the ruins.

The cannons that were used for wars still exist and have been kept on the topmost side of the fort. We can also spot a palace and ruins of houses of ministers
