Hapamuni
Gautam, Ghaghra (Gumla): In the tribal dominated area, Shakti is being worshipped for 900 years. Mahamaya temple of Hapamuni village, 12 km from Ghaghra block headquarters, remains a centre of faith. It is believed that the feeling with which worship is done in Mahamaya temple is received by the devotees as a blessing. This is the reason why devotees of the mother come here from far-off places and from other states to worship to fulfill their wishes. Here the worship is done by Brahmins as per the rituals. Regarding the history of the temple, the enlightened people here tell that Mahamaya temple was established 1100 years ago. The idol of Maa Mahamaya was installed. It is believed that the idol of the mother is kept covered. If one looks at the idol of the mother with open eyes, one loses eyesight. When the priests of this temple change the clothes of the mother, they tie a black cloth over their eyes. However, there was also opposition to the installation of Mahamaya's idol and temple. Some people in the area fought and the wife and child of Barju Ram, who worshipped the goddess, were killed. At that time, a voice from the sky said that you should attack the attackers. Keep moving forward. Do not look back or else your head will be cut off. Barju Ram's associate Raghav Ram attacked the attackers. When he killed everyone, he remembered the words of Maa Mahamaya and suddenly turned back and his head was cut off. Mahamaya temple is now established at another place. Kol rebellion took place in 1889. The rebels demolished the temple. Earlier the door of the temple was towards the east. The rebels had challenged that if you really have power then the door of the temple should be turned from east to west. On this, there was a sudden sound and the door of the temple turned from east to west. This temple is the identity of Hapamuni village. It is said that this temple was built by Gajadhar Rai, the 22nd king of the Naga dynasty and son of Ram Mon Rai, between 869 AD and 905 AD. He handed over the responsibility of taking care of the temple to his guru Harinath. King Shivdas has installed the idol of Lord Vishnu in this temple. This temple is a center of faith for the worshippers and a large number of people come here to worship every full moon day.
