On the lines of the Puri Temple, the Jagannath Temple located at a distance of 10 kilometers from Albert Ekka Chowk is celebrating its 328th foundation day. This is an important center of spirituality in the lap of nature.

It was built by Nagavanshi King Thakur Ani Nath Shahdev about 327 years ago in 1691. The special thing is that like Puri, a grand Rath Yatra is also taken out here. A panoramic view of the Rath Yatra can be seen on the Shukla Paksha Dwitiya Tithi of the Ashad month. Thakur Ani Nath Shahdev donated the land of three villages Jagannathpur, Ami and Bhusu to the temple for the maintenance of the temple. Till recent times, the temple was managed by the royal family. In 1979, the temple was made a trust. Its management was put under the trust. The Deputy Commissioner is the ex-officio president of the trust. Also, there are members of the royal family in the trust.Thakur Shahdev connected people of all castes and religions to the temple.

Jagannathpur temple is considered a spiritual center as well as a center of harmony among all religions. Thakur Shahdev had connected people of all castes and religions living nearby with the temple. 326 years ago, people of every caste and religion used to organize Rath Yatra here together. While people of Ghansi caste used to provide flowers to Shri Jagannath, Oraons used to provide bells. Muslims used to guard the temple. The idols on the chariot were decorated by the Rajwar caste. Potters used to provide earthen pots. Carpenters and blacksmiths used to build the chariot. After the formation of the trust, now this Rath Yatra is organized by the trust.

The British had seized the land of the temple

In 1857, Thakur Vishwanath Shahdev, a descendant of Thakur Ani Nath Shahdev, blew the bugle against the British government. After this war, the British government took over 84 villages of Thakur Vishwanath Shahdev's kingdom. This also included three villages of the temple. At that time, the head priest of the temple, Baikunth Nath Tiwari, petitioned the British officer to return the land of the temple. On the temple's petition, the British government returned one of the three villages, Jagannathpur, to the temple. Even in writing, 859 acres of land of Jagannathpur village was transferred to the name of the temple. At present, the temple has only 41 acres, 27 decimals of land left.During the Rath Yatra, the Lord stays in Mausibari for nine days.

On the historic Jagannath Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath goes to his aunt's house for nine days with his elder brother Balram and sister Subhadra. After accepting hospitality at aunt Gundicha Devi's house for nine days, the Lord returns to his abode. Due to the exclusive devotion of the Lord, the temple of Gundicha Devi (Mausibari) was built near the Jagannath temple. According to the chief priest of the temple, Braj Bhushan Mishra, once Subhadra says to Lord Vishnu in Krishna Avatar, "Brother, everyone will worship you. Brother Balram and I are your brother and sister, we should also be worshipped." Hearing the sister's request, the Lord blesses that in Kaliyug, brother Balram and you will also be worshipped along with me in the form of Jagannath. Under this belief, during the Jagannath Rath Yatra, brother Balram and sister Subhadra are also worshipped along with Lord Jagannath.
