Kas Pathar - Valley of Flowers

Step into the mesmerizing world of the breathtaking “Kas Plateau,” often referred to as “Kas Pathar.” Located in the breathtaking Western Ghats, in the Satara district of Maharashtra, India. Perched on a mountain within the Sahyadri mountain range, the Kas Plateau has gained global recognition as a “World Natural Heritage Site”

Since the Kas Pathar became popular, the number of tourists has been increasing yearly. However, this enchanting season lasts only for a brief period of 30 to 45 days. Formerly known as Prati Mahabaleshwar, there are many fascinating sights to see on this plateau. Exciting jungle safaris, jeep expeditions, and guided tours in the neighbouring areas along the Kas Plateau have been jointly launched by the Executive Forest Management Committee and the Forest Department. This allows tourists to immerse themselves in the region’s rich biodiversity throughout the year. These special experiences cater to the growing enthusiasm of tourists.

This plateau, nestled within the Sahyadri mountain range, has been recognized as a “World Natural Heritage Site” since 2012 by UNESCO. They made this declaration during the World Heritage Committee in St. Petersburg, Russia.

During the monsoon season, Kas Pathar, located in the Satara district of Maharashtra, transforms into a mesmerizing sight. Positioned at an altitude of 1200 meters and spanning approximately 10 square kilometres, this picturesque spot can be found at 17º42′ – 17º45’N and 73º47′ – 73º56’E.

Here’s an interesting fact for you: The name Kas Pathar has two fascinating stories behind it. One story suggests that it comes from the kas tree found in the nearby forest. But that’s not all! Another story proposes that ‘Kasa’ also means lake in the regional language, and the plateau got its name from the beautiful Kas Lake that surrounds it.
