Kirti Stambha, Sailana

The Kirti Stambh of Sailana is an ancient Jain monument located in the town of Sailana in the Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is a magnificent tower that stands tall at a height of 72 feet and is one of the region's most important Jain pilgrimage sites.

The Kirti Stambh was built in the 15th century by a Jain merchant named Dhanaji Shah. It is believed to be dedicated to the first Tirthankara of Jainism, Lord Rishabhanatha, and is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures depicting the various aspects of Jainism.

The tower has seven levels, each with beautifully crafted balconies that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The tower's lower levels are decorated with intricate carvings of Jain deities, while the upper levels are adorned with scenes from the life of Lord Rishabhanatha.

The tower is made of sandstone and is a prime example of the impressive architectural skills of the ancient Jain artisans. The tower's base measures approximately 30 feet in circumference, while its top measures about 15 feet. It is said it took over 12 years to complete the tower's construction.

The Kirti Stambh symbolises Jainism's rich cultural heritage and is an important pilgrimage site for Jains from all over India. It attracts thousands of visitors each year who admire its intricate carvings, learn about Jainism's principles and teachings, and seek blessings from the Lord Rishabhanatha.

Sailana is also home to several other Jain temples and monuments, making it a popular destination for pilgrims. The town is also famous for its mouth-watering traditional cuisine, which includes dishes like Dal Baati, Bajra Roti, and Gatte ki Sabzi.
