Koothanur Saraswati Temple

Situated in Koothanur, Maha Saraswathi Temple is one of the top places to visit near Thiruvarur town. The main deity of this sacred temple is that of Goddess Saraswati who is seen in a penancing posture with three eyes and one leg folded in yogasana.Local people believe that during the 12th century, a Tamil poet, Ottakuttar, meditated to Goddess Saraswati for creating this temple at Kuthanur. At the entrance of the temple, there is an image of Ottakuttar welcoming the devotees.   There are Sub Shirnes for Lord Shiva, Vinayaka and Murugan.  Goddess Sarawathi is the Presiding Deity and She is seen in a sitting posture with one leg folded.  The Temple is generally heavily crowded on Navarathri and Vijayadasami days when several students along with their Parents visit here to fare better in their exams.  Pournami and Wednesdays draws huge number of Devotees here.
