Kudal Sangam Temple, Hattarsang Kudal

Hattarsang Kudal is located in Dakshin Solapur taluk of Solapur district of Maharashtra at the confluence of Bhima and Sina rivers. The place is just 40 km from Solapur on the border of Maharashtra and Karnataka on the Solapur to Vijaypur National Highway. Hattarsang Kudal is a cultural and natural tourist spot, ten kilometers from Barur Fatya on the left.Hattarsang and Kudal are the names of two villages and Kudal is a Kannada word; Kudal means union. Hattarsang is also known as Kudal Sangam. At Hattarsang Kudal two rivers Bhima and Sina meet at a right angle. The confluence of the Bhima river coming from the north and the Sina river coming from the west is like the English letter T. In India, the confluence of two rivers is usually seen like the English letter Y. Hence the confluence of Bhima-Seena rivers at Hattarsang Kudal is rare and unique.Famous for religious tourism and nature tourism, this place has two ancient temples, Sri Sangameshwar Temple and Harihareshwar Temple; Apart from this, Hattarsang Kudal is famous for its multi-faceted Shivlinga, original inscriptions in Marathi and unique architecture, sculpture and idol work. Along with religious tourism, tourists and devotees visit this place in large numbers for nature tourism.

Sri Sangameshwara temple is built at the confluence of two rivers Bhima and Sina at Hattarsang Kudal. This temple belongs to the Chalukya period and is a Trikoot or three gabhara temple. This temple belongs to the Chalukya period and has been renovated many times in the following period. The main sanctum sanctorum has a magnificent Shivlinga with the image of Sri Sangameshwara.

First Inscription in Marathi Language - The first inscription in Marathi language in India is engraved on the beam of the auditorium of Sri Sangameshwara temple. This inscription was read by the famous inscription expert of Solapur Shri. Done by Anand Kumhar. In this article, “ Whoever reads this article will be victorious ” can be said in simple Marathi language. In these same articles, the period is clearly mentioned as Shaka 940 i.e. 1018 AD.
