Kyllang Rock
Kyllang Rock, located about 78 kilometers from Shillong, is a massive red granite dome that rises majestically from the lush green landscape of the West Khasi Hills. This natural monolith, estimated to be around 1,000 feet in height and about 3,300 feet in circumference, is believed to have formed millions of years ago. The rock is surrounded by dense forests and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. The climb to the top is a moderately challenging trek, with well-defined trails and steps carved into the rock. As you ascend, the air becomes cooler and fresher, and the sounds of nature provide a soothing backdrop. Upon reaching the summit, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see. The rock's unique geological formation, combined with the tranquil environment, makes it a popular destination for both nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Kyllang Rock is also steeped in local folklore, with Khasi legends speaking of its protective and spiritual significance. The surrounding area is rich in biodiversity, with a variety of flora and fauna, including rare orchids and medicinal plants. The site is managed by the local Khasi community, who ensure that it remains pristine and accessible to visitors.
