Martello Tower

The tower is situated in the south-east part of Siddhu Kanhu Park, right in front of the local D.C.'s residence. The Martello tower is the remains of the struggle between the Santhals and the British in Pakur Town. Sir Martin, the tenth S.D.O of Pakur, built the tower in 1856 with the view of protecting the British Empire from the attack of the Santhal warriors, who had led many struggles to drive out the Englishmen, tyrant Jamindars and Banias from their land. The hills of Rajmahal and Jangipuru are visible from the top of Martello Tower.
