Nahargarh Fort

Picture yourself leaving the bustling markets of Jaipur behind and embarking on a journey upwards. As you ascend a ridge of the Aravalli Hills, a magnificent silhouette forms against the sky. This is your first glimpse of Nahargarh Fort, a majestic structure completed in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.

Though initially named Sudarshangarh, the fort eventually earned the moniker "Nahargarh," meaning "abode of tigers." Some say the fort was named so due to the population of tigers that once called these hills home. Other legends suggest that the fort owes its name to the Rajput kings who fought for their motherland with the prowess of tigers.

As you step through the ornate gateways, you are immediately struck by the intricate carvings and delicate stonework that adorn the fort's walls. This impregnable structure, once stood as a formidable defence for Jaipur alongside its neighbouring Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort.

Today, it stands as a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of its builders, inviting you to bask in the glory of Rajasthan's rich heritage.
