Parumala, a serene village located in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, is renowned for its rich spiritual heritage and historical significance. This tranquil destination is best known for the Parumala Church, an important pilgrimage site for the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. Nestled on the banks of the Pampa River, Parumala offers visitors a unique blend of spirituality, history, and natural beauty. 

The Parumala Church, officially known as the St. Peter and St. Paul's Orthodox Church, is the primary attraction in Parumala. The church is dedicated to St. Gregorios, also known as Parumala Thirumeni, who was the first canonized saint of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. Built in the late 19th century, the church is a masterpiece of traditional Kerala architecture combined with modern elements. It stands as a testament to the rich spiritual legacy of the region.


St. Gregorios of Parumala, affectionately known as Parumala Thirumeni, played a pivotal role in the spiritual and cultural upliftment of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. His life and teachings have inspired countless devotees. Every year, thousands of pilgrims flock to Parumala to pay their respects and seek blessings at his tomb, which is located within the church. The annual feast, Parumala Perunnal, celebrated in early November, attracts a massive gathering of devotees from all over the world.
