Ravadurg Gooty Fort

Gooty Fort, also known as Ravadurg, is a hill fort situated in Gooty, Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Perched atop a large hill at an elevation of around 300 meters, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding plains. Historically, the fort has been held by various dynasties including the Vijayanagara Empire, the Marathas, Mughals, and the British. Its architecture is a blend of natural topography and traditional fort construction techniques, featuring multiple levels of fortification, granaries, powder magazines, pools, an old mosque, and several temples. This fort is known for its unique octagonal-shaped shell keep, which is a structure rare in Indian forts. The climb up to the fort is quite strenuous but offers trekkers a chance to explore the ruins interspersed with seven gates, each named after a significant figure associated with the fort's history.
