Sankisa Temple

Following the death of Gautam Buddha, the great king Ashoka developed this region. He constructed the enormous Ashoka pillar in this town, which still stands today and is known as Elephant Capital.Many travelers from countries other than India frequented this place all year round.The place is well known for having ties to past Buddhists and Buddhas. Buddhists hold that the Buddha returned to Earth after spending three months in the heavens.
