Saphao/Castle of Beinô

Culminating the high spring flows across the majestic rock structures, The Castle of Being is a lesser-explored grand canyon of Northeast India. Kolodyne or Kaladan is a river that originates from the forests of Myanmar and enters Mizoram through the Sittwe region. This river is known as Chhimpuitui in the Mizo dialect, the river is known to form one of the most spectacular terraforming zone, unknown to many. Called the Grand Canyon of Mizoram, the Castle of Bawinu or Beino stands majestically, offering a wonderland to the people of Northeast India. Hiking in this difficult terrain can be a beautiful experience. The formation is not accessible during the monsoon season, the ideal time to visit is during the month of February to May. A motorboat can be hired to wander the whole area. A local guide with a good knowledge of the area can also be hired. The boat journey starts from the village Lomasu to Saphaw from where the castle of Beino can be sighted. Access to Saphaw is via Lungdar in Saiha District or Tuidang on the Lai District side is easier. Each part of this Geological Marvel is a separate quarter of the Castle. The Structures resemble like soldiers are standing in the main entrance, Also the structure is looking like the Kitchen and the great hall of the Queen. The River water is crystalline, creating a beautiful reflection of the structure and making it a fascinating view. The area is home to some beautiful birds and animals, making it a suitable location for watching the wildlife.
