Shri Kshetra Kuruvapura

Kuruvapur is situated in Raichur district, Karnataka State. Bhagwan Dattatreya ‘s first incarnation in Kaliyug is Sripada Vallabha (1320-1352 AD) who performed penance for about 16 years at Kuruvapur for Gnana and Vairagya siddhi. Sripada Vallabha’s birth place is in Pithapuram, East Godavari Dist., Andhra Pradesh. Sripada Vallabha is born to Appalaraju Sarma and Sumathi.

Kuruvapur is termed as Gurudweepa in Skanda Purana. Skanda Purana also says that several yogis and siddhas of Himalaya visited Kuruvapur to have darshan of Bhagwan Dattatreya. This small hillock is surrounded by Krishna River. Tembe Swamy Maharaj (Sri Vasudevananda Saraswathi) performed “chaturmasya vrata” here in the year 1911. The disciples of Tembe Swamy Sri Rangaavadhoota, Gunavani Maharaj also performed penance at this place.

Sripada Vallabha paduka mandir, 1000 years bainan tree (vata vriksha), the cave where Tembe swamy maharaj performed penance, oudumbar vriksha (fig tree), Sreepada mudras on other side of the river, Datta mandir at Sri Vithal Baba ashram are the important places to visit here. Vithal Baba ashram is on the other side of the bank of Krishna River, which comes in Palamur district, Telangana.
