Sri Guru Basaveshwaraswamy temple
Sri Guru Basaveshwaraswamy temple, situated in the center of Kottur town is dedicated for the worship of deity Sri Veerabhadreshwara. It is believed that the temple was built in the 5th century by King Somasekhara, the ruler of Harapanahalli. The statue of Veerabhadreshwara, the original statue of Lord Shri Guru Kottureshwara, was built after the statue of Lord Pura-god was enshrined in a statue of Lord Vishnu.
The Kotturasha Lingamala is celebrated in the month of Kartika month. During Magha Maasa, lakhs of people come to Kottur barefooted from distant towns, chanting the name of Kottureshwara to fulfill their wishes. In the Shravana Maasa, Rudrabhisheka is performed to the deity. Sri Swamiji performs Nitya Rudrabhisheka Pooja, Panchamrutha Abhisheka Puja, Ashtothara Namavalli Puja, Mahamangalarati Puja and Deepadha Puja to the deity.
