Sri Rajagopalaswamy Temple
Sri Rajagopalaswamy Temple, situated in Mannargudi, is dedicated to Rajagopalaswamy, an incarnation of Lord Krishna. It is a Vaishnavite shrine and covers an area of around 23 acres. The temple has a 12 ft tall idol of the main deity. It also has 24 shrines, 7 mandapams, 9 theerthams, 16 gopurams and 7 prakarams that were constructed by Kulothunga Chola I.These structures were renovated by the subsequent Chola rulers and the Thanjavur Nayaks. In the month of March, Par Pughalum Panguni Tiruvizha is celebrated at the temple. The Geruda pillar and the Rajagopuram in front of the temple are the symbol of Mannargudi and the symbol of Mannargudi Municipality.There are five Arulmigu Rajagopalaswamy Temples in Tamil Nadu but Rajagopalaswamy Temple is the Mannargudi Rajagopalaswamy Temple which is popularly known as the Temple.This temple was built by Kulothungan I, a member of the Chola dynasty, in the first Afiya fields in AD. Later Nayaka kings were Achuthappa Nayakakar.
