Tilaiya Dam

Tilaiya Dam is a major water reservoir in the Koderma district of Jharkhand, India. The dam was constructed on the Barakar River and completed in 1953. The Tilaiya Dam is an earth-fill type of dam and one of Jharkhand's largest dams. The barrier has a capacity of 11.94 billion cubic meters for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and flood control. The Tilaiya Dam is surrounded by beautiful hills and forests, making it a popular tourist destination. The dam is also an important water source for nearby cities and towns. There are several places to visit near Tilaiya Dam. One of the popular tourist spots is the Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary, located around 35 kilometres from the dam. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, elephants, and several species of birds. The Tilaiya Dam is the Koderma Hill Station. It is located around 30 kilometres from the dam and is a perfect destination for nature lovers. Lush green forests and hills surround the hill station and provide breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The Koderma Hill Station is also known for its famous Koderma Stone, which is used in construction and exported to several countries. The Shivgiri Temple is another popular destination near the Tilaiya Dam. The temple is located around 10 kilometres from the dam and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the temple was built around 800 years ago and is visited by several devotees throughout the year.
