Vikramaditya The Great Memorial Statue

Vikramaditya the Great was a legendary emperor of ancient India who ruled over the region of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh during the 1st century BCE. He is revered as a symbol of wisdom, justice, and courage in Indian mythology and folklore. To honour his legacy, a magnificent memorial statue was erected in his honour in the city of Ujjain.The statue, known as the "Vikramaditya Smarak," is located on the banks of the river Kshipra, near the famous Mahakaleshwar temple. The figure depicts Vikramaditya sitting on his throne, surrounded by his ministers and advisors, with a sword and a book in the other, symbolizing his strength and wisdom.The memorial statue is a stunning work of art, standing tall at 25 feet and weighing 5 tons. It was created by renowned sculptor Vasudev Kamath and unveiled in 1994 by the then-President of India, Shankar Dayal Sharma.Visitors can admire the statue and pay their respects to the great emperor while enjoying the serene and picturesque surroundings of the Kshipra River. The location is especially beautiful during the evening, when the statue is illuminated with bright lights, creating a magical and awe-inspiring sight.
