Yellur Fort

Perched at the top of a hill, Yellur Fort (also known as Rajhansgad Yellur Fort) is an ancient fort that has been ruled by several kings including the Marathas, Peshwas, Hoysalas, and Bahamanis etc. Besides the stunning views of the valley below, glossy carpeted meadows and verdant paddy fields, the fortress also has a Shiva Temple and a rustic well enclosed within the walls. While local vehicles can take you to the top, you can enjoy a short trek to reach the top.

Yellur Fort has an elaborate entrance designed in the Gomukhi style. In the centre is the Lord Shiva temple that is visited by several devotees especially on Mondays. Next to the temple, on the left, is the well which has now been covered with a net. Just alongside it is the area that is now left vacant, but is suggestive of being the place where arms and ammunition were kept in olden days. Near one of the three bastions is a secret doorway leading to the basement which is currently not accessible to tourists.
