The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) is one of the premier Mountaineering Institutes in the world. Founded on November 4, 1954, by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, to commemorate the first successful ascent of Mount Everest
by the late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa & Sir Edmund Hillary.

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
The park spreads over an area of 67.57 acres. Of which approximately 10 acres of this land is under display, the rest is zoo forests and old Conservation Breeding Centre.
The zoo has been a pioneer for conservation breeding of endangered Eastern Himalayan Species in India.

Observatory Hill View Point
Perched atop Observatory Hill, the Mahakal Temple stands as a beacon of spiritual devotion. This ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, exudes an aura of invincibility. It has interestingly been suggested that the very name “Darjeeling” might trace its origins to this sacred spot. In Sanskrit, the word "Durjay Ling", means "Shiva of invincible prowess, who rules the Himalayas." Similarly, since Observatory Hill was the original location of the Bhutia Busty Gompa, its monks may have given Darjeeling its name, calling their site Dorje-ling, or Place of Thunder.

Bengal Natural History Museum
A testament to the indigenous flora and fauna of the region, the Bengal Natural History Museum is a fascinating plethora of more than 4000 specimens being exhibited. Located in the heart of Darjeeling at the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, this museum was originally started as a small building in the Botanical Garden meant to showcase the varieties of butterflies and birds of the hills. Today, one can find preserved remains of the bird species, reptiles, insects, fishes, and mammals displayed in a replication of their natural habitats. An attractive display of the various minerals of the region is present here as well.
