Hindola Torana
Gyaraspur in Vidisha has, amidst the fragments of an ancient temple, an exquisitely carved structure popularly called the Hindola Torana. The word hindola means a swing and torana refers to a portal. But this exquisite structure has nothing to do with a swing. It is called so as the huge pillars resemble the trestles of a swing. The Hindola Torana was an entrance gateway to the now ruined temple. The remains of the entrance consist of two pillars and a beam on top of them. There is also a small ornamental beam joining the two pillars at the end. Both the beams have ornamental capitals with mythical creatures sculpted on them.

Maladevi Temple
One of the lesser-known architectural masterpieces of the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty is the Maladevi Temple located on the eastern edge of a steep slope overlooking the Manosarovar Talab in Gyaraspur. As this late 9th century temple is hardly a kilometre away from Hindola Torana, one can question if these two temples though built at different times were somehow connected.Interestingly, the Maladevi Temple cannot be seen in entirety as one makes their way up the hill by road. However, as one begins their descent on foot, the temple emerges from behind the rocks with miles and miles of green fields, clumps of trees and hillocks dotting the expansive landscape behind.

Vidisha in ancient times was known as Bedsa, Bedis Vesnagar, Besnagar, Bhellaswamipur, Bhelsa, Alamgirpur etc. The ancient sculptures, terracotta, coins etc found during excavations in early 20th century became the reason for constructing Vidisha Museum. Beautiful images were found at Bhilsa when a local Jagirdar was quarrying for stones in 1940. As these were of artistic merit and valuable for presenting a vivid picture of the ancient town of Vidisha, it was felt that such antiquities should be collected and a museum established. Hence, in 1964 AD, Vidisha District Museum came into existence.
