Group of Monuments at Hampi
The austere and grandiose site of Hampi comprise mainly the remnants of the Capital City of Vijayanagara Empire (14th-16th Cent CE), the last great Hindu Kingdom. The property encompasses an area of 4187, 24 hectares, located in the Tungabhadra basin in Central Karnataka, Bellary District.

Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple
This is the largest statue in Hampi. Narasimha is sitting on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake called Sesha. The heads of the snake acts as the hood above his head. The god sits in a cross-legged Yoga position with a belt supporting the knees.
Sometimes this is referred as Ugra Narasimha (i.e. Narasimha in its terrifying form). The protruding eyes and the facial expression are the basis for this name.

Mahanavami Dibba
This is the tallest structure in this area and hence the first thing you would notice as you enter the Royal Enclosure. From a distance this looks like an ordinary elevated square stage. As you go close, the details emerge. The whole structure is made as a giant square structure in three layers.
There are mainly two stairways to reach the top. The front one (east facing) is highly decorated on either sides with carvings of elephants, horses and a host of other things.

Sri Guru Basaveshwaraswamy temple
Sri Guru Basaveshwaraswamy temple, situated in the center of Kottur town is dedicated for the worship of deity Sri Veerabhadreshwara. It is believed that the temple was built in the 5th century by King Somasekhara, the ruler of Harapanahalli. The statue of Veerabhadreshwara, the original statue of Lord Shri Guru Kottureshwara, was built after the statue of Lord Pura-god was enshrined in a statue of Lord Vishnu.

Srimad Ujjaini Saddharma Simhasana Mahasamsthana
Ujjaini is one of the Panchapeethas along with Baalehonnur, Kashi, Kedar and Srishaila. Vishwabandhu Marulasiddeshwara (also known as Maralusidda), contemporary of Basaveshwara, is the founder of Shrimad Ujjaini Sadharma Simhasana Mahasamsthana. The temple within this Matha complex is believed to be the Aikyasthala of Sri Marulasiddeshwara. Maralusidda had worked with Basaveshwara for the good of the society during the Kalyana revolution in 12th Century.

Lotus Mahal
Lotus Mahal is an important monument in Hampi. Lotus Mahal is a virtual air conditioned residence built for one of the two wives of Vijayanagara ruler Krishnadevaraya. The Mahal had a water tank on the top, water pipes through the beams and columns, facilitating flow of water through the structure and keeping it pretty cool even in hot summer (Summer in Ballari district can get extremely hot).
